How to Contribute in Myanmar Spring Revolution

3rd Anniversary of the Declaration of People's Defensive War

"Message to the People on the 3rd Anniversary of the People's Defensive War"
September 7, 2024

Today marks exactly three years since the declaration of the People's Defensive war. On this day, I bow my head in deep respect and reverence to all the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives and bodies for the nation and the people throughout the course of this revolution.

Within today’s Spring Revolution, the Defensive War represents a people’s uprising broader than any revolution in our past. It is an inclusive struggle, joined by forces across every sector and layer of society. The entire population has risen—none left behind, none spared from sacrifice—to fight in this Defensive War with the shared goal of uprooting and eradicating the military dictatorship. Together, the people are writing a new chapter in the nation’s history.

In the making of a new history of future, we are laying the foundation for equality, peace, prosperity, and freedom, together with the building of a new federal democratic state.

At this juncture, marking three full years since the declaration of the People’s Defensive War, it has now transformed into a stage of strategic, large-scale military offensives. Across the country, ethnic revolutionary forces in their respective regions have not only established liberated and controlled territories but have also been able to wage broad and coordinated battles through joint military alliances built among them.

The terrorist military council has continuously used its military machinery to launch airstrikes and bombings against civilian targets that are not military objectives. Within the Defensive War, it has become evident that the terrorist military council's ground forces are collapsing and steadily disintegrating. As a result, the terrorist military council, seeking to cover up and compensate for its defeats, has increasingly resorted to air power, deliberately targeting civilians.

We see that the terrorist military council has been exploiting the lives of the people as tools to entrench its power structure. The very pillars of the dictatorship—its military machinery, its military bureaucratic apparatus, and the network of accomplices that enable the terrorist military council—are what continue to sustain the terrorist military council, prolonging its existence and allowing it to cling to life.

I believe with certainty that the just defensive revolution will ultimately triumph. When that final moment arrives, every victory—great and small—won along the way will belong fully and directly to the people. The present waves of resistance are already striking and dismantling each pillar of the dictatorship’s machinery, and they will deliver the decisive blow that ends the terrorist junta. This is not mere rhetoric; it has been proven through the labor and sacrifice of three years of struggle. And still ahead, more people’s victories will emerge, taking concrete form.

At this point, the soldiers of the revolution—the members of the People’s Defence Forces—must, above all, live up to the very name “People’s Defence.” It is essential that they safeguard the true essence of the revolution. They must respect and uphold the ethics of the revolution and the principles of a just war, defending the lives, homes, and property of the people with the same devotion as they would their own lives. We must not forget that only those who can win the hearts of the people can truly hold the key to the revolution’s victory.

In this resistance war, I want to pay my deepest respect to all the revolutionaries who, with steadfast convictions and unwavering belief in the cause, are serving in every layer, sector, and field of our struggle. We must acknowledge our differences among one another, while uniting to uproot and defeat our common enemy once and for all.

Because the traits and practices of dictatorship have been deeply ingrained in our society, we must not only wage a physical revolution, but also a revolution of systems, traditions, and mindsets. This broader struggle—systemic revolution, cultural revolution, and intellectual revolution—is essential to fully uproot tyranny.

The Spring Revolution is truly a people’s revolution. The Defensive War is a nationwide uprising—above ground and underground, in every corner of the country. It is also the broadest wave of revolution in our history, bringing together people from all walks of life, of every ethnicity, and from every force, each rising up from their own place and role.

Whether through armed struggle, political struggle, or the people’s struggle, this revolution is a storm that uproots dictatorship at its core. It will dismantle and sweep away every remnant of the old structures of military tyranny until nothing remains.

Therefore, for everyone on the side of the Spring Revolution, it is especially vital that—under any circumstance—standing with the people and remaining alongside them is upheld as a fundamental principle of the revolution.

Together with the people, let us make one final, determined push to sweep away every remnant of the old structures of military dictatorship, and build a new Federal Democratic Nation.

Revolution Must Prevail!
