About Office of the President
On 1 February 2021, the military had staged a coup against the democratically elected government. After the coup, elected members of the parliament formed the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw [Union Parliament] (CRPH).
On 16 April 2021, the Interim National Unity Government (NUG) was founded after CRPH discussion with ethnic groups, ethnic armed organizations, NGOs, political parties and stakeholders. It aims to end military dictatorship and establish a federal democratic union. Since President U Win Myint is arbitrarily detained by the military, Vice President Duwa Lashi La assumes the role of president as Acting President.
The President is the Head of the State of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The Office of the President aids the President in discharging State and ceremonial responsibilities. The office is headed by the Secretary to the President and Secretariat team, to provide all required services to the President i.e. Acting President in performing his duty and functions as the Head of State.
The Office of the President would perform the following core functions for the President:
Provide advisory and consultative services to the President
Provide support for policy and political strategy
Provide in-depth research analysis and recommendations
Provide communication, technical and administrative support
Provide direct services to the President as needed
