How to Contribute in Myanmar Spring Revolution

2023 New Year

My respected fellow citizens,

At the close of the year 2022 and as we step into the New Year of 2023, I wish all our people good health and peace of mind. May you be freed from the oppression of the dictators, and may you fully enjoy democracy and freedom.

At the same time, I wish to make clear that the National Unity Government is steadfastly striving to dismantle the military dictatorship and to establish a federal democratic system. Over the course of 2022, the NUG was able to build greater trust with the ethnic revolutionary organizations and to engage in practical cooperation with them. Up to the present day, we have succeeded in establishing ties with all ethnic revolutionary organizations, and we have also carried out strong military and political cooperation with key organizations.

At the same time, beyond forging strategic cooperation with the ethnic armed organizations, we have also strengthened our engagement with civil society organizations inside and outside the country, so that together we can steadily weaken the military council from all sides. This is the direct result of the determination, sacrifice, and tireless efforts of the ethnic peoples who are resolved to oppose the tyrannical military junta. Today, the junta is suffering heavy blows on all fronts—military, political, economic, social, and diplomatic—and its strength has been considerably diminished.

Looking at the international stage as well, it is clear that the junta is in steep decline. At a time when the military council is being increasingly isolated by the global community, the revolutionary forces under the leadership of the National Unity Government are, in contrast, steadily gaining practical support and solidarity from international organizations. Over the past few months, the situation has become plain for all to see—“as obvious as an elephant walking across the open field.”

The United Nations, as the world’s highest multilateral body, has rejected the representative put forward by the junta and has continued to recognize U Kyaw Moe Tun, who represents the National Unity Government and the people, as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative. This decision makes it abundantly clear to the international community that there is no place for the military council on the global stage.

Moreover, for the very first time since Myanmar became a member of the United Nations, the Security Council was able to adopt a resolution concerning Myanmar. That resolution calls on the junta to end its acts of violence, to release unlawfully detained democratic leaders, and to respect the will of the people. The fact that this resolution was passed without a single country opposing it demonstrates, in the clearest terms, that the junta has no defender left in the international community.

Furthermore, at recent ASEAN summits, the leaders of the terrorist military and their foreign minister were excluded. Likewise, at the subsequent ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting, the military council's defense minister was also left out. And looking at the summit’s decisions—stating that, if necessary, the military council will continue to be excluded from future ASEAN meetings—it is plain to see that the military council is becoming increasingly isolated and its position ever more dire.

Moreover, the United States has now incorporated the Burma Act into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), formally approving assistance to the NUG, NUCC, CRPH, EROs, as well as CDM participants and PDFs who are resisting the terrorist military council. This represents recognition and support for the efforts and sacrifices of the people who are fighting for freedom, justice, and democracy. For this reason, it is increasingly clear that the military council has no place left on the international stage.

At a time when the revolutionary organizations are steadily gaining advantages on all fronts, the military council has found itself with no way out. In desperation, it is now trying to create a “sham election” as a false exit strategy. The so-called election of the terrorist military council is nothing more than a political ploy—covering a dead elephant with goat skin—meant solely to prolong its grip on power and to ease the severe military and political pressures it is facing.

Therefore, the sham election organized by the military council must be resolutely opposed and resisted. The year 2023 is a decisive year for the revolution. To remove this terrorist military clique and to establish the federal democratic system that all the peoples of Myanmar long for, it is essential that the entire population continues to intensify their struggle.

At the same time, the groups leading the revolution must work together in unity — with cohesion, discipline, and a strategic, practical approach. In resisting the brutality of the terrorist military council, resilience is of the utmost importance. The junta is waiting for the day when the people and revolutionary forces are exhausted and weakened. That is why we must all intensify the momentum of the revolution and continue our efforts with renewed determination.

Moreover, we must be vigilant against the military council and its lobbyists, who are spreading false news and deceptive propaganda. Their aim is to sow division among revolutionary forces, among ethnic armed organizations, between ethnic armed groups and the National Unity Government, and even between political parties and organizations. It is not enough simply to avoid believing the junta’s lies. We must also guard against messages that seek to divide us, disguised as criticism, instead of constructive and good-faith feedback. This vigilance is essential because the key to victory in the revolution lies one hundred percent in the unity of the revolutionary forces and the people.

This revolution is a struggle carried forward in unity by all ethnic peoples and all revolutionary forces. Because of that, I have absolute confidence that it must succeed. I also firmly believe that the year 2023 will be a decisive turning point in the political destiny of our country. Therefore, together with our National Unity Government, with the ethnic resistance organizations, the revolutionary forces, and the entire people, let us move forward with full determination and strength to carry this revolution into the new year.

Revolution Must Prevail!
