Announcement No. (8\/ 2023)<\/strong> The Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as represented by the National Unity Government,\u00a0 welcomes Quad Leaders\u2019 address of Myanmar in their Joint Statement issued on 20 May 2023.<\/p>\n Quad Leaders affirmed their support for inclusive democracy in Myanmar, while expressing\u00a0 deep concern at the \u2018deteriorating situation\u2019. They also called for an immediate cessation of\u00a0 violence, for the release of all arbitrarily detained persons, for unhindered humanitarian access,\u00a0 and for the full implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus.<\/p>\n Quad Leaders have therefore assigned themselves a key role on Myanmar. This fits with their \u2018steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific\u2019 that is inclusive, resilient, peaceful and\u00a0 stable.<\/p>\n Australia, India, Japan and the United States should strengthen their collective engagement on\u00a0 Myanmar by providing direct humanitarian assistance, by bolstering the National Unity\u00a0 Government and its ethnic partners, by pushing for ASEAN progress, and by taking punitive\u00a0 action against the illegal military junta as a threat to peace, stability and security.<\/p>\n The National Unity Government earlier issued a statement on the G7 Hiroshima Leaders\u2019\u00a0 Communiqu\u00e9 that set out a series of actions that the G7 should take.
